Sounds like the Searges (?) silent practice mechanism to me. I think there
were a few towers with these installed, but I couldn't name any of them.
Perhaps someone else on the list will have more knowledge?

Subject: [Bell Historians] Silencers

A conversation on Nabbers regarding Leamington RC reminds me that
there is the remnants of a system of small bells on the wall of the
Parish Church ringing room. They were installed, I think, during
WWII so that the bells could be silenced, but rung and a sound heard
in the ringing room but not outside.

Are there any in working order anywhere? I'd love to have a go!

Mike

BTW We all agree the RC bells are better than the Parish, not a
difficult choice to have to make!
