Fwd: Steel bell protective coatings

I've seen them painted - green!
Mind you I've also seen bell metal ones painted - again green.  They 
were in Loughborough for blasting to remove the paint as part of a 
restoration.


I'm seeking advice on whether steel bells should be coated with 
anything.
