Johnson, the "Red Dean" of Canterbury, was Vicar of Dunham Massey before=20
becoming Dean of Manchester, from where he went on to Canterbury. &nbs=

His autobiography "Searching for Light" contains a passage relating to a ro=

between himself and the ringers - he reported that he was able to resort to=
the=20
chimes. Of course that could mean something quite different, but it=20
suggests that they were alternatives. And he <EM>was </EM>the V=

in 1914 !</FONT></DIV>

friend to the Canterbury Cathedral Company - he had the Cathedral bell=

rehung and the tenor recast in 1951. More importantly, he presided ov=

the recasting of that excellent ring of ten at Manchester in 1925.</FONT></=
