people present so that one can depress the clavier baton whilst the other i=

working by the bell. Check that the quadrant stanchion is tight on it=
s=20
bearer and that it is correctly aligned with the direction of the=20
clapper.</FONT></DIV>

<DIV><FONT size=3D2>2. If the quadrant seems to be correctly aligned =
with=20
the proper direction of the clapper, and all seems not to be well, uncouple=
the=20
clapper from the flight wire (or the latter from the quadrant) so that the=
=20
clapper hangs vertically and centrally in the bell. Check that i=
t=20
does. Check also that the crown staple nut is tight, and if not tighten it =
with=20
your assistant holding the clapper against the bell in line with the direct=
ion=20
of the quadrant.</FONT></DIV>

<DIV><FONT size=3D2>3. With the clapper hanging free and the staple b=
olt=20
tightened, check in the usual way for excessive wear in the hinge pin /=20
bush. Reconnect.</FONT></DIV>

<DIV><FONT size=3D2>4. Have your assitant depress the baton to see that all=
is=20
working well above. With regard to the fall of the baton within the clavier=
,=20
check the adjuster above the clavier, if fitted.</FONT></DIV>
