bells in the Canterbury Heritage Centre, neither of them by Joseph Hatch.&n=

The larger of them, right in the entrance foyer, is 33.5/8" diameter, and i=
s by=20
William le Belyetere of Canterbury, c.1325. It was the tenor of a rin=
g of=20
three at St Giles, Kingston, just south of Canterbury. Has a horizont=
al=20
crack in the soundbow. When Taylors rehung the two other bells =
dead=20
on dirders in 1971 this bell was "dumped" on the first floor. Ei=
ther=20
RCO or NJD brought it to the attention of the Heritage Centre folks and it =
has=20
been magnificently cleaned and polished for all to see.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT color=3D#0000ff size=3D2>The other bell is 21.7/8", 2-1-8, by Ri=
chard=20
Kerner, also of Canterbury, 1505. It was the tenor of three at St Mar=
y=20
Bredin, Canterbury, destroyed in the blitz of Canterbury, 1st June, 1942.&n=
bsp;=20
It was said to be the oldest bell dated in <EM>arabic </EM>numerals in=
the=20
country. When Mears & Stainbank recast the remains of the other tw=
o=20
bells into one for the new church, this was saved and was later moved to th=
e=20
Heritage Centre.</FONT></DIV>

There are over 100 of his bells still in Kent belfries, and over 30 of John=
=20
Wilnar's, some of them excellent.</FONT></DIV>
