where I had avised on the bell installation in 1970, the bells being rehung=
in=20
1974. The old Ellacombe was chucked up in the church roof. I mentioned its=

former existence to Jack Worrall, who knew exactly where it had gone and ki=
ndly=20
rescued the plate and gave it to me - 30 years on! It is=20
a standard one, in this case of cast iron, painted black. Warners did =
do=20
some quite elaborate ones with the Royal Arms - there was a beuatiful =
one=20
at Ash-by-Sandwich, Kent until the bells were removed for rehanging &=20
augmentation. I was amongst the KCA members participating in the work and i=
t was=20
still there when bells and frame had gone, but not when they returned. Mos=
t=20
plates that I have seen look as if they are cast iron or brass but the ones=
on=20
Harrington's tubes are of the same metal as the tubes (80:20). Mears &=
amp;=20
Stainbank plates are I think not all that common.</FONT></DIV>
