<DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>In closing churches, the CofE has also mer=

parishes. It is therefore quite common for the old parish church of (e=

St.Peter to become the centre of a new parish called St.Peter with=20
St.Bartholomew and St.Anne etc. There is also a fairly wide variation in th=

that these things are handled from one diocese to another. Fine in pastoral=

terms in encouraging people to see the remaining building as the successor =
of=20
the churches that have closed, but confusing (sometimes in the extreme - I'=
m=20
thinking of a case in Birmingham where buildings have actually swapped=

dedications!) for those who want to refer in a longer time-frame to one and=
the=20
same church building. Technically, the amalgamated name in Dorchester is al=
most=20
certainly correct - but the building was originally the church of a single=
=20
parish and (in my view) the original dedication of the building (rather tha=
n the=20
current title of the parish) should still be highlighted in some way.=20
