<P>When I rang on these bells nearly 30 years ago I could only think that it was like ringing in a gent's toilet! A ground floor ring with all four ringers facing the same wall and only a few inches from it. The real hazard to ringing these bells was to avoid grazing your knuckles on the wall! </P></DIV>

<DIV></DIV><FONT color=#ff0000>Talking of gents' toilets, I found another pissoir in a ringing chamber recently. We discussed these a while ago, but nobody mentioned the one at Newark. So far as I could see, it hadn't been used recently. Didn't study it that closely though... </FONT>
