Richard is quite correct a synthetic washer is far better as they do not sh=
rink, leather is useless as it shrinks and then your clapper is loose again=
and if you have spent time getting your clappers perfectly set very annoyi=
ng. We have not had any problems with our synthetic washers at Masham the =
clappers are checked frequently and are always tight.
