It is a magnificent Pugin tower. Does anyone know more about the bell, and the plans for more bells, if they ever existed. [It's Victorian. Details are in George's book. If nobody has posted details= by tomorrow I'll look it up - I don't have the book to hand but we have a = copy in the Minster ringing chamber,] It all sounds rather similar to St. Michael and all angels, Mount Dinham, Exeter. There is an 18 cwt (?) bell in the tower there. It was cast by Taylors as the 9 of a ring of Ten. It is a great tragedy that these bells never made it to the tower. Would be nice to see such a splendid tower equipped with bells. [That's an 1867 Taylor bell, given as 26 cwt - anyone know whether this is = a measured weight or an estimate? I understand that it was cast as the teno= r of a projected ten. Hung for ringing but not in ringable condition. There= is a single bell (although only small - about 4 cwt) at St Mattthew's in E= xeter which I have seen and which appears to be in a ringable condition.] David ------=_NextPart_000_000B_01C57401.3EFBB600 Content-Type: text/html; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
