No details in Cheetham (CB Lancs). As to the peal boards, well these things do tend to travel with the bells, = as one can find for example at Goulburn Cathedral, NSW. There were five pea= l boards at St Mark's, Leicester, of comparable quality to the ex-Blackburn= ones. When the church was closed and the bells (8/22) taken out, eventuall= y to form the Goulburn back seven with the 2nd recast as a treble, Kingsley= Mason rescued the peal boards which were still here at St Mary de Castro w= hen I came here ten years ago. The boards had not been put up and in 1998 I= was able to get them repatriated with their bells. When I went to Goulburn= in 2000, I was pleased to see some boards had been placed in the ringing c= hamber and others in the Cathedral. St John the Divine, Leicester - now the back ten (21) at Peterborough - was= a different story. The good folk at Peterborough did not want anything exc= ept the bells and their fittings. Kingsley again came to the rescue and acq= uired the very fine peal boards and the Ellacombe apparatus for St Mary de = Castro. There they were duly erected and there they all are to-day, and the= y are not going to Peterborough even if they wanted them! I understand that such records as existed at All Saints, Leicester (8/9) we= re transferred to Sproxton with the bells. The scandalous sale of St Saviour, Leicester, bells (8/25) as scrap metal -= the church was still open - left the peal boards in situ in the tower. Som= e of the more recent ones were given to members of bands who took part in t= he brief revival of ringing there, but there are a number of large 19th cen= tury ones for which there is no room in any of the three remaining city cen= tre ringing chambers.=20 Just a few instances of what is not such a rare thing. What was perhaps rar= e was that of seven ringing peals in 1980, the City of Leicester posessed o= nly three by 1990.
