St Nicholas Old Deptford (Warner) comes immediately to mind (with old t= reble & tenor left in it). The extraordinary steel frame of 1919 (n.b., not by Mears) was left (with t= he old 5th & 7th) high in the NW tower at the Abbey when the new ten were h= ung in what was the old ringing room in 1971. A great deal of it has since = been removed to improve egress of sound. And of course, the great-great grandfather of them all is still in the towe= r at St Luke, Liverpool. It isn't the only redundant metal frame re= maining in a tower. The old cast iron 8-bell frame (by Blackbourne) remains= above the present installation at South Petherton. The old 3rd still hangs= in its pit, bereft of all fittings apart from headstock, bearings and an E= llacombe hammer.
