Deaf Hill is one of a cluster of small ex-mining villages at Trimdon. It has never appeared in Dove. The OS map shows a church, but without a tower (NZ380361). This, and the fact that George Elphick wasn't able to inspect them properly, suggests a clock chime in a spirelet with a lightish hour bell - pretty much what seems to have existed at Monkwearmouth. So it is just possible that the bells were transferred to Deaf Hill when the church closed. If somebody on this e-list is based in East Durham, perhaps they could go and have a look? The details I have for these churches are from notes made by= George=20 Elphick in 1977/78.  He gives the following:

Monkwearmouth St Peter
1/2     26=20 1/4 ins        Mears &=20 Stainbank 1903
2/2     28=20 1/2 ins        Mears &am= p;=20 Stainbank 1903

Monkwearmouth All Saints
1/1     17 7/8=20 ins        J. Warner=20 1874
Disused =20 17ins          Blank c.= =20 1844
According to Pevsner the church is 1846-49 so the disus= ed bell=20 may be slightly later than 1844.

Monkwearmouth St Aidan
1/1    No dimensions given    = 19th=20 century?
This suggests that he wasn't able to inspect=20 it.
