I inspected these fascinating bells eighteen months or so ago, and = in my notes I wrote the following about the 10th: "10th "Oldham", "Trinity" or "Old Nine O'Clock" Inscription band: WM EVANS FECIT RECAST 1729 (57 5/8", 33-2-11) The bell is by William Evans of Chepstow. It bell has lost its canons, has = been quarter turned, and has been machine tuned from the mid soundbow to th= e mid-upper waist. There are marks of neat scratch-tuning on the lower soun= dbow, beneath the machine marks." The earlier tuning marks were clearly by Evans, as this was the only bell t= o bear them. The marks were much neater than those on the other bells on wh= ich earlier tuning was visible.
