They were a six of mixed dates from Bolton, to which Mears added a treble and tenor when the bells were transferred in the 1870s. Only posting this to save anyone else from speculating / scratching for details. More later CP I am trying to find out about the history of the bells at St. James, West Teignmouth. The present ring of 8 is by Mears, dating from the 1860s. Before that there were 4 bells, one of which was said to be 'broken'. Is there a list of bells of the period cast be Mears (equivalent, for example to the excellent list by Nick Bowden of those by L&J)? I know the number of bells is much greater but it is possible that there is an authoritative work somewhere! Please forgive the naivety of the request, I'm very new to this sort of thing!
