tone. Theoretically the answer is yes as it is similar to copious inscript=
ions. There will be a small frequency shift of the partials but the most li=
kely effect is the bell's doublet frequencies are likely to be further apar=
t giving rise to warble. This will be more pronounced on bells where most o=
f the inscription is on one side instead of spread evenly around the circum=
ference.
Many of the second-hand bells we have sourced have had engraved inscription=
s added and I understand this has been common-place for many of the second-=
hand bells supplied to Australia prior to our activities starting.
