Building Consent was sought from Lancaster City Council for the removal of the
two bells. At the time the suggestion was that the 1296 bell would go
to Hornby as a service bell and the Luke Ashton one would go to St Peter's
Quernmore, where there is a long term proposal for a light ring of bells.
However there was local opposition to removing them; the 1296 bell is the most
notable feature of Claughton village. So for the moment they are still
there.</FONT></SPAN></DIV>
