size=2>Listed Building Consent was sought from Lancaster City Council for the
removal of the two bells. At the time the suggestion was that the
1296 bell would go to Hornby as a service bell and the Luke Ashton one would
go to St Peter's Quernmore, where there is a long term proposal for a light
ring of bells. However there was local opposition to removing them; the
1296 bell is the most notable feature of Claughton village. So for the
moment they are still there.</FONT></SPAN></DIV>
