size=2>Listed Building Consent was sought from Lancaster City Council for
the removal of the two bells. At the time the suggestion was that
the 1296 bell would go to Hornby as a service bell and the Luke Ashton one
would go to St Peter's Quernmore, where there is a long term proposal for a
light ring of bells. However there was local opposition to removing
them; the 1296 bell is the most notable feature of Claughton village.
So for the moment they are still there.</FONT></SPAN></DIV>

<DIV>Thanks to Jim, Peter & Chris for the info. The two bells were
delivered to our works today, as we are supposed to be making some replicas to
hang back in the turret. The larger bell is cracked in the waist and has also
lost its canons. The smaller bell is complete. If anyone wants to see them -
let me know!</DIV>
