face="Times New Roman" size=3>Many ringers, particularly the historians among us
will be aware that the complete Murphy of <st1:City w:st="on">Dublin</st1:City>
octave, were removed from the redundant <st1:PlaceName
w:st="on">St.Nicholas</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType
w:st="on">Church</st1:PlaceType> in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City
w:st="on">Cork</st1:City></st1:place> some years ago. So far, no suitable home
has been found for them, and it appears that “crunch time” has arrived for these
rare bells.</FONT></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify"><FONT
face="Times New Roman" size=3>They have been effectively “traded in” against the
restoration and augmentation of St Fin Barre’s Cathedral bells from eight to
twelve plus a sharp second, which is being undertaken by Matthew Higby & Co
Ltd, who have a limited period of time to try and re-home them, and feel it
would be a dreadful shame to see them broken up for scrap.</FONT></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; TEXT-ALIGN: justify"><FONT
face="Times New Roman" size=3>A tonal analysis has been carried out on the
bells, and the conclusion from this is that they would make a characterful ring
(Tenor approx. 13½cwt following tuning) with several of the bells capable of
becoming “Simpson” tuned.</FONT></P>
