<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Amazing how quickly DAC's and Chancellors appear to
have worked in the sad case of the ex-St Peter's Oldham bell. An positive
enquiry is made at St Ambrose where the bell resided, and "a few weeks later" it
is "broken up on site and the metal sold for scrap". Or was a Faculty not
sought?</FONT></DIV>

<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>I don't think that Whitechapel (or
Taylors) would have purchased bell metal without knowing that it had been
lawfully come by - which in the case of a church bell means that the
sellers have authority to break up a bell of local historic
interest.</FONT></DIV>
