spending too much time on it, it looks as though we provided fittings for the 5
bells, recast the tenor and supplied various bits of steel etc to strengthen
the frame. The work was ordered by G&J (clocks) Ltd. rather than the
previous company (readers will be aware that companies occasionally have to
change their names!?) The last bell supplied to the G&J that we all know
love and copy was for <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName w:st="on"><st1:City
w:st="on">East Lansing</st1:City></st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">College</st1:PlaceType></st1:place>
and that was in 1957. We also supplied a chime of bells to G&J (clocks) ltd
in 1961 to go to <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Warwick</st1:City>, <st1:State
w:st="on">Queensland</st1:State></st1:place>, so not the last one with G&J

it was added within the existing frame. I don't have a weight for it.<br>

(Incidentally - although this might have been discussed before - there is a
photograph in the ringing chamber at Haslingfield, showing the present tenor.
Its inscription shows its original date as 1816, and adds that it was recast
in 1960 for Gillett & Johnston by John Taylor & Co. This must surely
one of the very last bells to bear Gillett & Johnston's name?)<br>
