For recent (2007) descriptions of archaeologically
assessed and verified Bell Casting pits, see my "Church Bells of the Channel
Islands". One is inside a church (at Catel, Guernsey) and is visible through a
glass panel in the floor; the other is in the Fishermens Chapel adjacent to St
Brelade Church in Jersey. The archaeological assessment by Dr Warwick Rodwell is
discussed. In both cases ornamented portions of the bell moulds were found and
possible founders identified.
