In his History of the College Youths, Bill Cook has this to say
about Matthew East and the peal of Grandsire Cinques at St.Bride's:
"Matthew East, whose only College Youths peal as conductor this was,
joined in 1718, was Steward in 1725/6 and Master in 1733/4." There
is a similar brief account (p.50) in Vol.3 <i>Changeringing: the
History of an English Art</i><br>

I have made a quick search in the Wratten collection of newspaper
reports and John Eisel's supplement (i.e. <i>Order and Disorder</i>)
but there don't seem to be any further references to Matthew East.<br>
<br>
However, the peal books of the College Youths and the Eastern
Scholars would be worth searching. There are copies among the Osborn
Ms at the British Library - where everything can be consulted in one
place - and the original peal books of the College Youths are, of
course, in the possession of the Society. However, there is not yet
a database listing of the early peal records.<br>
