Will watch them.</p><p><br></p><p>I'm thinking of writing something for the RW about Richard Smith's articles.</p><p><br></p><p>At one extreme you could say that this is a good examle of a new dataset being mined in a not particularly valid way, given that the bells have to have survived to be in the sample. Will this become even less valid if he looks at individual founders, given that survival may possibly be related to quality.</p><p><br></p><p>Another point is that by no means all of the output of foundries was for churches in this country, which he partially acknowledges in terms of his analysis being only for bells in Dove. But equally important for Mears is possibly the Canadian business, and for Warners clock and school bells and for Taylors and G&J carillons.
