Ringing-chat - for bellringers in the English tradition

About ringing-chat
The list is intended for use by those interested in ringing church bells in the traditional English manner and in the other activities in which ringers traditionally indulge.   The intention is to provide a forum for the sort of subjects which might be raised in the pub after a practice.   These could, of course, include ringing, but the list is not meant for those who want information about the basics of ringing or about such things as the times of practice-nights.   It is meant to complement, not replace, the older change-ringers list, which is expressly restricted to matters to do with ringing.

A tolerant atmosphere prevails, though there is no bar on the correction of grammar and spelling.   Anything which would not be acceptable in the pub is not acceptable on the list.   Only subscribers may post to the list.

When you subscribe, you will be asked to give your first name and surname. When you post to the list, your identity should be apparent, from your "from" header, your email address or your signature.

The ringing-chat list was established in 1997 by John Camp. It is now administered by Richard Smith on behalf of The Ringing World.

There are two sets of archives.  Subscribers can access the archives since the list began until recently ('the main archive') here.   A user name and password are needed and may be found, by subscribers only, on the subscribers' page (see below).   This archive has a search facility.

The current archive, updated message by message, can be found here.  Your list password is needed.    If you don't know what it is, you can have it sent to you (see below).   There is currently no search facility for the current archive.

Subscribers should contact the list administrator if there are any difficulties.
