I think you are mistaken; it is the Victoria Cross that was made from 
the canon captured at Sebastipol. I remember seeing the remainder of 
this metal on "Blue Peter" many years ago. It is very likely indeed 
that this metal has been used up and that another source has been 
found for the metal needed for the medals
