Bassaleg:
My vague memories of A-level chemistry suggest that rust weighs more
than the iron from which it is formed. Assuming that within reason
the rust does not fall off the bell, does a steel bell get lighter or
heavier over time?

Croydon:

they were not stretched. He said the Gilletts front bells had a
different profile from the back ones, which had to be matched.
