I visited Melbourne on a ringing outing a couple of weeks ago, and had a
quick look at the bells. They are a Taylor back 8 (back 6 1882, augmented
1885), with an Eijsbouts front 4. The trebles of the eight are dome-topped,
as many Taylor front end bells of this era are, and the four bells cast to
augment to 12 (which are all more or less the same weight) have been cast
very long in the waist and very thick to match them to the back bells. This
has been successful, and the 12 are all similar in sound and are very
ringable. I attach a photo of the 4th set 'up' - yes, it really is that long
waisted; it's not a trick of perspective in the photo!
