Talking today at Taylors the view there is that Tugby, Leics may be earlier=
. The Vicar there (& Skeffington) was the Revd Hastings Horne who invented =
them. The runners at Tugby & Burton Lazars were fabricated units, not casti=
ngs.
When PROPERLY organised they are NOT difficult to deal with, but Taylors ne=
ver seemed to have left a length list for the holes.

George reckons 1894. The 1895 four at Stockton-on-Forest, York, had them =
originally, although David Potter replaced them with ordinary ones in the 1=
980s because he got pissed off with replacing them!

Could someone tell us when the admired Hastings Stay was first used?

Does anybody know when and where the despised Hastings stay was first
used? I think it was at some point in the early to mid 1890s.

David
