A sort of bell-related query which sometone might be able to answer!

In the scrap books at the Minster we have quite a lot of good photos of
the Minster and other bells in York at various times during hanging,
etc. As they're glued in it isn't really practical to scan them, so I've
tried photographing them, with varying success. I have a fully manual
SLR camera. Can anyone give me any tips?
