Bell recordings - off topic?

I was about to post another message dealing with the vagaries of 
Windows Sound Recorder, and how record level control works on a PC. 
However, on reflection I think we're off topic here. I will summarise 
all the comments and views to date in the paper I'm writing for AW, 
which I will post on the web. I'm happy to continue the discussion in 
private (it has been very useful) but I don't think it's much to do 
with bell history . . .
