Another excellant article. May I add the following comment:
It might be useful to mention the addition of a reference recording of a tu=
ning fork or tone of known frequency to aid calibration of tapes produced o=
n analogue tape recorders etc. It could be a tuning fork or a tone of known=
frequency, for example the hour pips on Radio 4 are bursts of tone at 1000=
Hz.
