Last time I was in Gloucester the base of St Michael's tower was
still being used as a tourist information office - I thought I'd read
somewhere that it isn't any more, but don't know for sure. The ground
floor has a vaulted roof with a bell-hole in the centre and rope
holes in the vault. Were they a ground-floor ring?

We duly made our traditional trip into Gloucester this afternoon, and
while the kids ran amok in the Early Learning Centre next door, I
took a closer look at St Michael's tower. It is now disused; there is
a sign on the door to say that the tourist information centre has
moved, but the desk and other furniture and fittings are still there.
