Halifax were ordered in May 1951 and the new twelve was dedicated on June 1=
3th 1952 and they are a running set, nos.7063-7075. They were of course all=
cast by Gillett & Johnston.

Their immediate predecessors in number, Bodenham, Herefordshire, 7057-7062,=
are dated 1951.

Calgary is much later in date and number (back three, 7338-7340 plus frame =
for eight, 1955, cast and tuned in Croydon; 3,4, and 5 were ordered in 1955=
, cast at Loughborough and tuned in Croydon - all bear the date 1955, but o=
nly the 5th bears the date in relation to the G&J crest: they were ordered =
as late as 9.12.55 (48 years ago to the day!) and sent off 23.2.56. The tre=
bles were cast at Loughborough and tuned at Croydon; they are both dated 19=
56, were ordered 16.11.1956 and sent off 29.1.1957. See Andrew Higson's and=
my complementary articles in the RW earlier this year.

There is nothing particularly strange about "post-dated" bells: The Town C=
hurch Bells in Guernsey were recast in February 1994 and hung in August of =
that year - all are dated 1995 as they were cast to celebrate the 50th Anni=
versary of Liberation (9.5.45-9.5.95).

A closing line to support CJP's opinions re Hunslet in particular and his u=
nderlying argument in general.

On Change Ringing Resources, there is a site for Halifax added in=20
December.
The date of casting is given as 1952, but Greenwood gives 1951. I=20
have asked them to check. Could this be another Manchester Town Hall -
dated 1937 but cast in 1936?
What is very interesting is the claim that some of the heavier bells=20
are Taylor castings, to Gillett profiles. (c/f Calgary, Alberta where=20
the smaller bells are Taylor castings)
Anyone got info? - George.
