Moseley, St Mary
It is in fact the treble which was vast in 1874.
The second may not have been one of the original St Marie's Sheffield bells=
; it is dated 1858 and the pitches of these two bells make interesting read=
ing:
Treble 1125 (D-0.76) 937 (A#+0.09) 670 (E+0.27) 573 (D-0.43) 321 (E-0.47) =
=20=20=20=20=20=20=20=20=20=20
30.3/4"d, 1.3/4" unworn, 23.1/2" L to S, 53.1/2" shoulder circ.=20
2nd 1114(C#+0.08) 950 (A#+0.31) 655 (E-0.11) 540 (C#-0.46) 325 (E-0.25) =
=20=20=20=20=20=20=20=20=20
31.3/4"d, 2" unworn, 24" LtoS, 60.1/4" shoulder circ.
The remaining bells are 1860 (5, 8) and 1861. Tenor is 580 (D-0.22)
The fact that the trebles are very close to the same note is made worse by =
the third, whose nominal (912) is well over a semitone flat; the back five=
, however are approximately in line.
The measurements are my own; the pitches were recorded on our visit in 1992=
by the late Ranald Clouston, using Cyril Johnston's forks. If anyone want=
s the whole lot, let me know.

But you're going to get one!=20=20
Don't forget that one bell, the second ISTR, was replaced when the=20
bells were transferred from from St Marie, Sheffield and therefore=20
what is there now at Moseley is not quite the "cutting edge"=20
technology that was in Sheffield!
Even so, they are the best steel 8 in the world!
