As a URC, Methodist & Anglican Shared church with 8 bells (the oldest datin=
g from 1380) St. Peter's Chertsey must be one of the few "Methodist" church=
es with bells dating from 400+ years before John Wesley!

Yeah, but now both Synod and the Methodists have agreed to the Covenant, =
that will be put right.

Whether the Methodists will adopt bells however, is a different matter. =
I think those two delicious Taylor chimes - Alfreton (10 + 2) and Grainger'=
s Lane (8) and the G&J 10 bell chime at West Ham Central Mission are the on=
ly Methodist installations, in England anyway.

No doubt there will be a flurry of others. Meanwhile enjoy your Wesley's=
Best Bitter.

This thread brought to mind a recent Sunday afternoon when I rang for (=
and attended) a John Wesley 300th anniversary meeting at St. Peter's Cherts=
ey (which is an LEP Shared church).

Apparently, according to the speaker, the great man used to speak out a=
gainst the evils of drinking tea - he himself far preferring to drink beer.

Clearly the Methodists got the message a bit wrong somewhere along the =
line.

Clearly a teetotaller. There is usual alternative liquid entertainme=
nt available nearby, sufficient of which would have rendered him insensible=
to the 'noise'.
