Big single bells

Although not at 'big bell' the tenor of the 1906 G and J chime at my tower 
(St Mary's Priory Warrington) is hung for ringing without a stay or slider. 
I believe Mears rehung it in the 60s but cant find any evidence apart from a 
hole in the soundbow where they dropped it!!!
