Looking through my list of Essex bells I can only find Great Burstead 3 of =
5, that fits with the information given, if it is this bell it is not liste=
d and Ranald Clouston did see it, although I haven't got his report on this=
one, I would assume that Ranald thought it was later than 1552. I visited =
some 25 years ago but did not make detailed notes.

If it is another tower I would be interested to know which one.

Ranald Clouston saw most of the uninscribed bells in Essex and I have som=
e of his reports which give Ranald's views on the date of each bell. If you=
supply the name of the tower in question I should be able to help.

A simple question from one who is a tyro:

I would like to date one of our bells - or at least have an idea whethe=
r it was one of the four in the 1552 Return of Church Goods. (Yes, I am i=
nterested in the history as well as the "go" of the bells.)

To give you some background:
The bell has no inscription or other marking, just the wires.
It is long-waisted, still with its cannons
Its date is shown as Unknown in "The Bells of Essex"
One of the other bells is by a known bellfounder (pre-1552),
the rest are dated explicitly (post-1552).

Feasible?
