Does anyone know anything of the history and development of the Compton
Bourn Change Ringer apparatus (see this week's RW p.950).

I believe that the machine was developed and marketed by the Compton Organ
company - but they seem to be quite rare animals. The derelict one at St.
Bride's is the only example I have seen. Are there any others around -
particularly any that still work?

Presumably a ringer or someone with ringing knowledge must have been
involved in the machine's development. I wonder if the technology employed
may have influenced or been related in any way to the development of the
early electronic ringing simulators?
