Dear all
Apart from the material in Walters 'Church Bells of Wiltshire' and the
items he references, does anybody know of material on Salisbury
Cathedral's capamnile and its demise?
RON
Neil Skelton wrote an article for the RW, and I think one for Face to Face
(the SDGR newsletter) There's also some references in Wiltshire
Archaeological Magazine including vol III, p.124. where J. Waylen
commented that
'The real spoliators of Salisbury Cathedral were Bishop Barrington and his
advisers. . . the lost belfry will ever be a subject of lamentation.'
Attached is a transcript of the faculty for the disposal of the last five
bells.
