Ages ago I gleaned a formula used to calculate the hang of a bell - i.e.
from the axis of rotation (gudgeon line) to the lip of bell.
Hang = dia/2 +18"
That the wheel should project 6" beyond that, giving:
Wheel = dia + 48
That the throw of the clapper should be 4" (i.e. distane of clapper piovot
below bell pivot).
I believe these had been used at the turn of the (19th/20th) century by
Taylors who of course had done so much to standardise their bell profiles.
Question: For a Taylor profile what is the relationship between the
height and the diameter?
