For a really spectacular example of crown failure, look at Dickons Kent Bel=
ls site, http://kent.lovesguide.com under Horton Kirby (now under Ringing P=
eals). They were a five, reduced to three, re-augmented to five and now a d=
elightful little Whitechapel six. The middle bell of the three (recast as 4=
/6) had its crown bust out in the 19thc, and the remainder of the bell was =
simply rehung from the headstock on long iron straps (illustrated). I did c=
hime it once, but the tone was the preverbial cow's back side.
