The canons have been removed from this bell which is cracked from the lip t=
o the lower waist. It has been on permanent loan since 1992 from St Andre=
w's church, Thornhaugh, Cambridgeshire when it was replaced by a new bell. =

This bell, which is 'clocked', may well date from the foundation of the sch=
ool in 1484 by William Waynflete, Bishop of Winchester and founder of Magda=
lene College, Oxford. It is hung from a wooden headstock on plain b=
earings without lever or wheel in a small wooden frame, Pickford type 6.A. =
with jack braces to the bottom cill, for one bell dated 1797. Deta=
