That's unusual - post war shortage of iron? I believe some of their last jobs (e.g. Goxhill) have cast iron stocks but fabricated steel frames.
I've heard it said that the bells at Wakefield Cathedral (1947) may have a lower than usual tin content, as tin was difficult to obtain in the immediately post-war years. Whether this is true I don't know.
