Don't know, but quite a few rings of bells were taken down and stored during the war - quite often in the churchyard or nearby. St Mary Redcliffe, Bristol, St Paul, Bedford, St Nicholas, Liverpool, and St Magnus the Martyr, London, spring to mind. The latter were never put back.

Paradoxically, most of the towers whose bells were removed for safety survived the war unscathed, whereas many churches which left the bells in the tower such as St Mary le Bow were hit and the bells destroyed.
