Well done for posting the present state of Heythrop bells (whatever J Hedgcock might think). Since Sharpe, inter alia, the lever has been fitted in place of a wheel to the tenor as the headstock is split right through in the centre. The very wide pitch louvres admit rain in quantities and the frame was quite green in places when seen by RWMC September 1994.
Other features: independent staples bolted up between the top of the Doncaster clump and the underside of the headstock. 3-bolt top baldrick lined clappers. 1 & 2 Headstocks small splits; tenor split through centre. Strp gudgeons. Oval stock hoops. Plain bearings in CI usings with wooden covers fitting on two pegs. Wheels on 1,2 weak, lever on 3. Dog-leg stays, sliders running in slots. Pulleys very worn.
8 bell frame rather slightly built with only two main braces to each wallside; corner posts. Tenor pit 3' 5".
Bell Diam LtoS S/Circ H F T QN
Treble 22.1/2 16.1/8 38.1/2 408 750 950 1209 c1575 G+0.8
Second 23.3/4 16.3/4 41 379 704 895 1109 c1500 F#+0.23
Tenor 26 18.1/2 44.1/4 344 631 795 1012 1325 E+0.8
Treble not tuned; 2nd & tenor (contrary to Lewis's strictures) both tunedfrom shoulder to mid-soundbow.
RWMC recommended short term cleaning up and longer term complete rehanging with two trebles and a tenor, as the existing frame is by no means in good condition or of good enough design to carry adequately the 5 largest bells for which the spaces were provided, i.e. tenor 39" = c10-cwt

My non-ringing brother who lives in the village, arranged this interesting
visit.
Three excellent bells, 22½", 23¾" and 26" diameter, notes, G, F# and E,
cast by T.C. Lewis of Brixton in 1880, hanging in the treble, 2nd and 3rd
pits of an oak frame for eight. Each inscribed:
T:C:L [and opposite] MDCCCLXXX
and have what appear to be 'Doncaster Canons'.
Traditional ringing fittings in a somewhat delicate condition except that
the
tenor wheel has been replaced by a lever. I wonder if they could be patched
up?
