Its pretty noisy - I tried it for "educational purposes" once on a bell about to meet its maker. There appear to be two pre requisites 1) the arms of a blacksmith 2) deafness - its not necessary in the applicant but comes fairly soon with the job.
Hmm - a deaf bell tuner............he would need a friend that knows sign language.
