Supporting what Mark Regan and Bill Hibbert have said, I would add that DAC work - and CCC work by extension - isn't, or shouldn't be, just about heritage and conservation. It's about balancing a range of issues, of which the heritage is but one - albeit a significant one.

Some DACs and the CCC - largely because they feel spooked by EH looking over their shoulders and act with undue caution owing to the threat of the withdrawal of ecclesiastical exemption - sometimes seem to have lost sight of the fact that they are supposed to be Church bodies working for the church.

In at least one Diocese, the DAC has been renamed "Diocesan Advisory Committee for the Care and Development of Church Buildings" - a bit of a mouthful, but rather more enlightened than the Diocesan Mothballing committee that many have become
