In 1896 a heavy (25.1.10) ring of three was cast by Mears & Stainbank for
the massive central tower of this new church. They were ordered by the
architect, J T Micklethwaite when the church was built 1895-7. I believe
that they were hung for ringing but don't have any evidence. These were
replaced by the current light (8.3.23) ring of six cast in 1960 by Taylors.
There were/are hung in a new, single tier low-side metal frame for eight and
were dedicated on 14th October 1960. The rope circle isn't bad, just out of
proportion (in a very large tower) and missing the two trebles for eight.
It's possible that some of the six have been roped to 'improve' the circle
and would be re-roped upon augmentation to eight.
